Which Iceland Campervan Company Is Cheapest?
We ran 720 comparable searches — the same dates, the same pickup point, the same trip length, priced across every company on the same day. Indie Campers came back cheapest on 25% of them, ahead of PK Campers on 21%. Which means the honest answer to the question in the title is: it depends on when you are going and what you want to sleep in.
Based on 79,888 price checks across 14 rental companies over the last 30 days (through September 11, 2026). Prices are in EUR and update as vendor availability changes.
How we measure it
A company's average rate is dragged down by whatever its cheapest vehicle happens to be. Rank companies that way — as the typical daily rate table does, usefully, for a different question — and you can crown a company that almost never wins a real comparison, because its one cheap van is not the van you searched for.
So we count wins instead. Every day our price tracker prices an identical query — a 10-day rental across every rental company we track, for a fixed set of departure dates and both pickup points. Each of those is one comparable search.
- →Within a search, a company's price is the cheapest camper it actually offered — not its average, and not a van it had no availability for.
- →A search only counts if at least 2 companies quoted. Being the only quote is not a win.
- →The company with the lowest qualifying price wins that search. Genuine ties count for both.
- →Everything is an all-in daily rate in EUR, so the comparison is like for like across companies that quote in different currencies.
Two columns matter as much as the win rate. Quoted on is how often a company returned anything bookable at all — a rate you cannot book is not a price. Typical gap is how far above the winning quote it usually lands, which is what separates a company that is never cheapest but always close from one that is not really competing. Both are in every table below, and the full vendor directory has the rest of what separates them.

Read the last column before the first. This lens takes each company's cheapest camper of any kind, so it rewards whoever rents the smallest, simplest vehicle — and the winner is decided as much by what a company chooses to stock as by what it charges. The breakdown by camper type is the fairer comparison.

This is the category most people actually book, and the one where the field is tightest — small van conversions from a dozen companies, competing on close to the same thing.
4x4 campers
720 comparable searches · qualifying offer: any camper on a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive chassis.
| Rental company | Cheapest in | Quoted on | Typical gap | Its cheapest camper |

The filter is four-wheel drive, not four-wheel-drive campervan, and the cheapest qualifying offer is usually the Dacia Duster iKamper — a roof tent on an SUV clears the bar at a fraction of what a 4x4 van costs. If you want a hard-sided 4x4 camper, read this table as the floor of the market, not a like-for-like ranking, and compare the vans themselves on the 4x4 camper price page.
4-berth campers
720 comparable searches · qualifying offer: any camper the company listed as sleeping four or more.
| Rental company | Cheapest in | Quoted on | Typical gap | Its cheapest camper |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Sleeping four covers both a six-metre motorhome with a fixed bed and a hatchback with a roof tent that folds out over the roof rack, and it is the second kind — the Adventure Tent 4 Select — that usually wins on price. The gap column is doing a lot of work here: a company quoting a real four-berth van is not losing badly, it is quoting a different product.

A low quote rate is not automatically a bad sign — a small operator with one or two vans sells out, and a sold-out van is recorded here as no offer rather than a high price. It does mean a headline ranking built on that company's few available dates is describing a narrow slice of the year. Where a company sits on both numbers is the useful signal, and the head-to-head comparisons put any two of them side by side.

A few percent rarely turns a mid-table company into the cheapest one, and where it does not, the tables above say so. What it reliably does is close part of the gap — and on a two-week rental, the difference between a company that is a few percent off the lead and one that is level with it is usually decided by something other than price.
Everything else on this page — every band, every win rate, every figure in the price statistics — is the undiscounted market price the company quoted. The discount exists only on the rate you are quoted when you follow our link, so this is the one place it appears, and we show the before as well as the after. We earn a commission on those bookings; it does not change what we record or how the wins are counted.
Cheapest is not the same as best value
A rate with no bedding, a non-refundable deposit and a high insurance excess can lose to a rate a few percent higher within a day of picking the van up. Read the win tables as a shortlist and the terms as the decision — the company reviews cover what each is actually like to rent from.
Frequently asked questions
Which campervan rental company is cheapest in Iceland?
Across 720 identical searches in the last 30 days, Indie Campers returned the lowest price 25% of the time — more often than any other company. That is not the same as being cheapest for your dates: the winner changes by month and by camper type, and no company here wins even two searches in three.
Is the company with the lowest average price also the cheapest one to book?
Usually not. An average is pulled down by whatever a company's cheapest van happens to be, even if that van is sold out or unsuitable. A company can post the lowest average rate on the site and still lose most head-to-head searches, because the comparison that matters is the one for your dates, your pickup point and your camper type. That is why this page counts wins on identical searches instead — and why the ranking by typical daily rate can disagree with it.
How do you decide who is cheapest?
Every day we price the same trip — a 10-day rental — across every rental company we track, for a fixed set of departure dates and both pickup points. Each of those is one comparable search. Within a search, a company's price is the cheapest camper it actually offered, and the company with the lowest one wins. Searches where fewer than 2 companies quoted are thrown out, because being the only quote is not a win.
Why does a company with no wins still look competitive?
The gap column measures how far above the cheapest quote a company typically lands. A company that never wins outright but sits a few percent off the lead can still be the right booking once you count what the rate includes.
Does the cheapest company change during the year?
Yes. Fleets are seasonal — some campers are pulled off the road entirely in winter, and companies price the shoulder months very differently from July. The month table on this page shows the leader changing hands through the year, so a ranking you read in January is not a safe guide to an August booking.
Are these prices the ones I will actually pay?
They are the all-in daily rates the companies quoted us for those dates, in EUR, so they are comparable to each other. Your own quote will differ with your dates, how far ahead you book, and any extras you add. Insurance excess, second drivers and bedding are the usual places a cheap headline rate stops being cheap — see the campervan insurance guide before you compare two quotes on price alone.
