McRent is not an Icelandic camper company that also rents motorhomes. It is a pan-European motorhome franchise — around a hundred stations from Estonia to Portugal — with exactly one Icelandic outpost, McRent Iceland ehf., on an industrial street in Reykjanesbær about ten minutes from Keflavík airport. Everything on this page is that station's fleet and nothing else; the EcoLine budget tier, the UK-Camper range and the over-3.5-tonne Premium group that appear elsewhere in McRent's network are not rented here.
The first thing to understand is that you are not booking a van. Search McRent for a week in Iceland in high summer and you get eighteen cards: four of them say "Family Standard", three say "Comfort Plus", three say "Family-Standard Automatic". Every card in each of those sets quotes the identical price for the identical dates, because they are the identical product. Each is captioned "e.g. vehicle type T 447", and a note above the list reads: "The motorhomes shown are examples. The vehicle data shown, such as seating and sleeping places, are decisive for your booking." Their Iceland rental terms put it beyond argument in clause 4.1 — reservations are binding for vehicle groups, not vehicle types, "even when a specific vehicle type is named as an example in the group description", and McRent reserve the right to move you to an equal or higher-value vehicle. So this page catalogues the seven groups, and tells you which bodies are hiding inside each one.
That matters more than it sounds, because the bodies inside a group are genuinely different vans. Book Family-Standard Automatic and you will be handed something between 696 cm and 740 cm long — a 44 cm swing, decided after you have paid, on roads where the difference shows up in every passing place and every campsite pitch. Payload swings harder still, and it is published per individual vehicle rather than per model: the vehicles McRent offered as "Family Standard" ranged from 251 kg to 576 kg of load capacity, and two Family Luxury alcoves on different dates came back at 89 kg and 506 kg. And payload is not a soft number here — clause 12.3 of the Iceland terms lists ignoring the load limits among the things that make you liable for damage in full, alongside drink-driving and hit-and-run.
Three vehicles in McRent's own Iceland catalogue cannot be booked at all. The EcoLine 2, EcoLine 4 and EcoLine 6 — their budget tier, described in Icelandic as a motorhome "up to 5 years old" — have a page, a description, a photo and a starting price on McRent's Icelandic site, and were not offered on a single day of the eighty availability probes behind this page, covering every fortnight to December 2027 and every week to August 2027. If the cheap tier is why you were looking at McRent, that is the finding — Iceland's genuinely cheap camper options are elsewhere.
Then there is the shape of the year, which is the most useful thing to know before you plan around this company. From early November to the start of March, McRent Iceland rent one thing: the Urban Plus, a 636 cm campervan sleeping two. Twenty-one consecutive weekly checks through that window returned it and nothing else. The Family-Standard Automatic comes back in early March, Compact Plus in late March, and the four largest groups — Family Standard, Comfort Plus, Family Plus and Family Luxury — all reappear together on the same April day. If you want a six-berth alcove in Iceland at Easter, this is not the company; if you want one in July, McRent are one of very few places in the country that rent one at all.
Two constraints will decide whether McRent is even eligible for your trip, and both are unusual for Iceland. The minimum rental is five days, and in high summer it is seven: searches of one to four days return nothing on any date, and across seventeen weekly checks the floor rose to seven days for pickups between mid-June and mid-August before dropping back to five in late August. Iceland's van specialists mostly work to two or three. On top of that the booking engine will not take a reservation inside five days of pickup, so this is not a company you fall back on when a plan collapses at the airport.
Finally, the fine print that separates a motorhome franchise from an Icelandic camper outfit. The security deposit is €2,800, and that is also your insurance excess on every claim — it cannot be waived, only bought down to €1,500, €900 or €400, and each of those buy-downs applies to your first collision only. There is no gravel protection, no sand-and-ash cover and no river-crossing clause anywhere in the Iceland terms, because those are Icelandic product categories and this is a European contract; the terms simply forbid "driving on terrain not intended for it" and put damage to the chassis, axles, rims and tyres on you. Bedding, towels and the kitchen kit are all paid extras charged per person, the airport transfer is charged in each direction, and none of the seven may go on an F-road.
There are no prices on this page, deliberately — McRent's rates move with season, trip length and how far ahead you book, so any figure typed here would be wrong within a week. Every card links straight into a live search that puts its real price for your dates next to every other Icelandic camper company at once.

A card here is a booking group, not a van, and that is McRent's own rule. Their Iceland terms, clause 4.1: reservations are binding "exclusively for vehicle groups, not for vehicle types … even when a specific vehicle type is named as an example in the group description", and McRent may move you to an equal or higher-value vehicle. Their results list shows eighteen cards for these seven products, captions each one "e.g. vehicle type …", and prices every card within a group identically. Every dimension that varies inside a group is a range you have to accept, because you cannot pick the body. Length is fixed per body — Family-Standard Automatic 696–740 cm, Family Standard 735–741 cm, Comfort Plus 740–741 cm — and the `Length` spec row on each card quotes the longest in the group, since that is the one that has to fit. Payload is published per individual vehicle instead, so its range widens the more dates you sample: across eight sampled dates, Family Standard ran 251–576 kg, Compact Plus 422–720 kg, Urban Plus 179–586 kg and Family Luxury 89–506 kg. Plan against the low end; nothing lets you request the heavier example. EcoLine 2, EcoLine 4 and EcoLine 6 are listed in McRent's Iceland catalogue — their budget tier, "a motorhome up to 5 years old" — and were never offered. Eighty availability probes (27 fortnightly to December 2027, 53 weekly to August 2027) returned zero EcoLine offers on every single date. They are not catalogued as cards because fleetSummary() counts cards. McRent's Iceland catalogue advertises the wrong vehicle for six of the seven groups. Only Family Luxury's advertised A 70 is what Iceland rents. Family Plus is advertised as a 5-berth, 5-seat, 651 cm Trend A 5887 and rented as a 6-berth, 6-seat, 720 cm Sunlight A 72; Urban Plus is advertised as a 599 cm Cliff 600 and rented as a 636 cm Cliff 640 Adv. or Carado CV 640. The figures on this page come from the booking engine, which McRent's own disclaimer says is the decisive source. "Night heating" is a gas parking heater. McRent's Iceland station lists "Bílastæðahitari" — a parking heater, shown as "Heater" in their English locale — together with two gas bottles, and names neither brand nor fuel anywhere. It runs engine-off, parked anywhere, which is what matters; but it burns a finite bottle rather than drawing on the diesel tank, and clause 6.4 charges you for returning a bottle that is not full. The rental seasons are derived from availability, not published by McRent. Twenty-one unbroken weekly checks from 9 November 2026 to 1 March 2027 returned Urban Plus and nothing else. Family-Standard Automatic reappeared 8 March, Compact Plus 22 March, and Family Standard, Comfort Plus, Family Plus and Family Luxury all on 19 April. The 31 October endpoint is McRent's own: their station record sets summer to start 1 April and winter 1 November. The autumn edge is the softer one — this is a small fleet and a blank late-October week can be a sell-out rather than a withdrawal. Minimum driver age is stated two ways on McRent's own systems. The Iceland rental terms say 21 for every vehicle, with a licence held at least a year. The booking API reports 20 for most bodies and 21 for the Sunlight Cliff 640 Adv. — a figure that changes with the body you cannot choose. The terms govern, so every card here says 21.
Campervan — Stálbílar
McRent's own smallest class and the only one they rent through the Icelandic winter. One group: a 636 cm panel-van conversion sleeping two, with a washroom, sold as either a Sunlight Cliff 640 Adv. or a Carado CV 640 depending on what is on the yard. From November to March this is the entire McRent Iceland fleet.
Urban Plus
Two berths, a washroom, and the only McRent you can rent in January
McRent's exterior shot for this group. Their own filename says Cliff 540 — the bodies Iceland actually rents are the 636 cm Cliff 640 Adv. and Carado CV 640.
A 636 cm panel-van conversion for two, with four travelling seats, a wet room with shower and WC, and a gas parking heater. It is the smallest thing McRent rent in Iceland and the only one they rent year-round: from early November to the start of March, twenty-one consecutive weekly checks returned this group and nothing else in the whole fleet. Which of the two bodies you get is not yours to choose, and the vehicles behind them are not equivalent: McRent's published load capacity for the examples offered ranged from 179 kg to 586 kg, and the Sunlight is the one their booking data flags for a 21-year-old driver.

Best for
Two people who want a washroom on board and a heater that works parked anywhere, travelling outside the summer window when McRent's coachbuilt fleet is simply not on the yard. It is also the only group here small enough to feel unremarkable on the Ring Road.
Watch out
The payload lottery is severe on this group: the examples McRent offered carried anywhere from 179 kg to 586 kg, you cannot ask for the heavier one, and exceeding the limit is one of the clauses that makes you liable for damage in full. It is also 636 cm rather than the 599 cm Cliff 600 McRent's Iceland catalogue advertises — 37 cm longer than the van in the brochure photograph.

Semi-integrated — Lágþekjur
The coachbuilt middle of the range, and four of the seven groups: a 595 cm two-berth, two four-berth 7 m groups that differ only in gearbox, and a higher-trim four-berth. All are built on a 3.5 t Fiat Ducato-family chassis with a drop-down bed over the lounge, and all sit between 595 cm and 741 cm long — the size at which Iceland's single-lane bridges and unpaved campsite approaches start to be a factor.
Compact Plus

Carado semi-integrated exterior — the T 135 body McRent rent in this group.
A 595 cm semi-integrated for two, on a 3.5 t Fiat Ducato-family chassis, with a proper fixed washroom and a lounge that seats four for dinner. It is 41 cm shorter than the Urban Plus campervan despite being a coachbuilt, which makes it the easiest vehicle in McRent's Iceland range to place on a campsite pitch or thread through Reykjavík. McRent rent it as either a Sunlight T 58 or a Carado T 135, and the two bodies are the same length to the centimetre — the only thing that moves between them is payload, 422 kg against 720 kg.

Best for
Two travellers who want coachbuilt insulation and a fixed washroom without a seven-metre vehicle, and who are travelling in the shoulder months — this group comes back in late March, three or four weeks before the four-berths do.
Watch out
Two berths in a vehicle that seats four: the second pair can travel with you but cannot sleep. McRent's Iceland catalogue also advertises this group as a 599 cm Globebus T 1, which is not a body they rent here, and the exterior photograph on their T 58 listing is a file named for the T 68 — a 740 cm four-berth from an entirely different group.

McRent's volume product in Iceland and the clearest illustration of how they sell: a seven-metre four-berth semi-integrated with a drop-down bed over the lounge, offered as five different coachbuilt bodies from three manufacturers, every one of them quoted at exactly the same price for the same dates. Sunlight T 67 and T 68, Carado T 447, Dethleffs Just 90 T 7052 DBM and Just Camp T 7052 DBM. They run 735–741 cm long and carry between 251 kg and 576 kg — a payload spread of more than a factor of two across vehicles you are not allowed to choose between.

This group is also the last to come back in spring — it reappeared on 19 April in our scan, four to six weeks after the smaller groups.

Sunlight exterior. McRent use the same photography for the manual and automatic groups, which is fair — they are the same bodies.
Mechanically the Family Standard with a torque-converter automatic, and the only group in McRent's Iceland range where the gearbox is guaranteed — it is the one model whose own description says so outright ("Þessi farartæki eru með sjálfskiptingu"). All four bodies are Sunlight, but they are not the same size: the T 65A is 696 cm and the T 68A and T 69 LA are 740 cm. That is a 44 cm range, allocated after you have paid. Payload runs 203–581 kg on the same terms.

Best for
Drivers who do not want to learn a seven-metre manual on Icelandic gravel, and anyone travelling in March — this group is the first coachbuilt back on the yard each spring, roughly six weeks before the manual Family Standard.
Watch out
If the length matters to your itinerary, this is the group where it is least predictable: 696 cm and 740 cm are meaningfully different vehicles in a campsite, and McRent will not commit to either. Two of the four bodies (T 65A and T 69 LA) also carry no equipment list at all in McRent's own booking data, so the fittings on those two are unverified.

McRent's step up from Family Standard: the same four berths and four seats in a 740–741 cm semi-integrated, but every body in this group is a Dethleffs, which makes it the most internally consistent group in the Iceland fleet. The Just Camp T 7052 DBM+ and the two Trends differ in layout — the T 7017 EB+ carries single beds aft where the DBM cars carry a transverse double — rather than in size. Payload runs 248–519 kg.

Watch out
It costs more than Family Standard for the same berth and seat count, and McRent do not publish what the extra buys beyond the trim level — the spec rows on the two groups are otherwise identical. Their equipment list for this group also promises "2 gas bottles (one full, one used)" where Family Standard simply says "2 gas bottles", and clause 6.4 charges you for returning a bottle that is not full.

The two six-berth alcoves, and the only realistic way to put six people in one McRent vehicle in Iceland. Both carry a double bed in the pod over the cab, both are around 3.14 m tall, and both are only rented from April to October. Read the payload line on each of these two cards before you book either.
Family Plus

The exterior McRent attach to the A 72 listing — their filename says it is the Family Luxury's van, not this one.
A 720 cm alcove with a double bed in the pod above the cab, six travelling seats and six berths — one of very few vehicles in Iceland that will legally carry and sleep six on a category B licence. Unlike every other group here, Iceland rents exactly one body under this name, the Sunlight A 72, so for once there is no lottery. It also published 530 kg of load capacity on every example we saw, which for a six-berth is the difference between this group and the Family Luxury above it — where the same figure fell as low as 89 kg.

Watch out
It is 3.14 m tall and 7.2 m long on a front-wheel-drive 3.5 t chassis, which is a lot of sail area on a road where crosswind advisories are routine and door damage from wind is a standard Icelandic claim — and wind damage sits under the same €2,800 excess as everything else. McRent's Iceland catalogue also describes this group as a 5-berth, 5-seat, 651 cm Trend A 5887; the vehicle they actually rent is a berth larger and 69 cm longer.

McRent's most expensive Iceland group: a 725 cm Sunlight A 70 alcove with two large doubles, a third bed and a garage, sleeping and seating six. Like the Family Plus it is a single body with no substitution lottery, and it is the one group in the whole Iceland range whose advertised example vehicle is actually the vehicle you get. Then there is the number McRent publish next to it, which is the reason to read this card twice: load capacity on the examples offered ranged from 506 kg down to 89 kg, and you do not get to ask which one you are given.

Best for
Groups of six who want the largest interior McRent rent in Iceland and who are travelling very light — or four people who want two proper doubles and a garage, and who will never come close to the load limit.
Watch out
Plan against 89 kg, because that is what one of these vehicles publishes and nothing lets you request the other. McRent exclude the driver, fuel, fresh water, both gas bottles, the cable drum, the awning and the bike rack from that figure, but everything else counts: five passengers, all luggage, all food. The A 72 in the cheaper Family Plus group published 530 kg on every example we saw, for the same six berths. Clause 12.3 of the Iceland terms makes damage arising from ignoring the load limits your liability in full, so this is not a number to treat as advisory.
