CampEasy runs a curated fleet of fully built-out campervans organized into three tiers -- the budget Easy Small, the comfort-oriented Easy Auto, and the electric Tesla Camper Y 4x4 -- and markets every vehicle as no more than three years old, with trip-ready fittings such as a compressor fridge, a freshwater sink, and a Webasto diesel parking heater. Black Sheep Campers takes a fundamentally different form: its entire fleet is 4x4 SUVs where you sleep in the back of the vehicle or in a hard-shell roof-top tent, with no built-out campervans in the lineup at all. Its models are the Suzuki Jimny paired with a roof tent (manual, sleeps two), the Dacia Duster 'sleep in the back' in 2017-2019 and 2023 model years plus a Duster fitted with an added roof tent, the Subaru Legacy Automatic 4x4, and the Ford Explorer sleep-in-back with roof tent, which sleeps four and is the largest option. Every Black Sheep vehicle is 4x4, and all but the automatic Subaru Legacy are cleared for Iceland's F-roads.

The sharpest difference is the living setup. Black Sheep vehicles have no built-in kitchen, no toilet, and no indoor standing height -- cooking is done on a portable camp stove used outside the vehicle, and cold food is kept in a passive cooling box rather than a powered fridge, with no water tank or sink on board. A 220V heater is provided only between November 1 and April 15 and requires a campsite electrical hookup, whereas CampEasy's vans carry a Webasto diesel heater that runs off the vehicle independently of any hookup. What Black Sheep bundles in is generous for the format: a mattress, two sleeping bags, pillows, sheets and towels, a full camp-stove cooking kit (stove, kettle, pots, pan, coffee press, cutlery and dishes), two chairs and a table (removed in winter), unlimited mileage, and 24/7 support -- all folded into a single all-in EUR price that already covers taxes and standard insurances, with a WiFi hotspot, extra driver, roof box, and GPS tablet available as add-ons. CampEasy, by contrast, lists sleeping, cooling, heating, power, and water as trip-ready, with a caveat on cooking equipment and Wi-Fi and furniture offered as paid add-ons.

On insurance, CampEasy offers a Zero Risk option that brings the deductible to 0 ISK on top of the standard CDW, while Black Sheep's standard insurances are already inside its all-in price, with no deposit taken at booking and only a card hold placed at pickup. Pickup logistics also differ: CampEasy operates from a single depot in Reykjanesbaer near Keflavik Airport with a free airport shuttle, whereas Black Sheep offers two self-service points -- a lockbox lot next to the BSI Bus Terminal in central Reykjavik and Keflavik Airport, with a free shuttle running from BSI -- and sets a minimum age of 20, a license held at least 12 months, and a three-day minimum rental.
