Konvin Car Rental, part of the KONVIN Hotel & Travel Group established in 2020, runs a compact fleet of roughly 19 vehicles split across two distinct formats. On one side are built-out Fiat campervans -- the Doblo and Scudo -- with a built-in kitchenette, fridge, and diesel heater, sleeping two to three inside an enclosed cabin. On the other are 4x4 SUVs fitted with roof-top tents, including the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk and the Dacia Duster and Bigster, for travelers who want highland access. Black Sheep Campers takes a single, sharply defined approach: its entire fleet is 4x4 SUVs where you sleep either in the back of the vehicle or in a hard-shell roof-top tent. The lineup includes the Suzuki Jimny with roof-top tent, several Dacia Duster 'sleep in the back' builds (2017-2019 and 2023) and a Duster with an added roof tent, a Subaru Legacy automatic, and a Ford Explorer that sleeps up to four. There are no built-out campervans in the Black Sheep fleet at all.

The starkest difference is the living setup. Konvin's Fiat campervans give you an enclosed cabin with a built-in kitchenette, a fridge, and a diesel heater that runs without a campsite hookup. Black Sheep deliberately strips that out: there is no built-in kitchen, no toilet, and no indoor standing height in any vehicle. Where both offer roof-tent 4x4s -- Konvin's Duster, Bigster, and Renegade against Black Sheep's Duster, Jimny, and Explorer roof-tent builds -- the vehicles are comparable in concept, but Konvin can also put you inside a heated campervan, whereas every Black Sheep option is camp-based. On F-roads, all of Black Sheep's 4x4 campers are F-road legal, with the sole exception of the automatic Subaru Legacy, which is also its only automatic model.

On logistics, Konvin operates exclusively from its base near Keflavik Airport with a free airport shuttle, takes no prepayment, and offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Black Sheep offers two self-service pickup points -- a lockbox lot next to the BSI Bus Terminal in central Reykjavik and Keflavik Airport (with a free shuttle from BSI) -- which suits travelers who want to start or end in the city, with flexible returns. Its cancellation window is wider at 48 hours: a full refund if you cancel more than 48 hours before pickup, while within 48 hours or a no-show is charged in full and early returns are not refunded. Black Sheep carries verified scores of 4.9 on Google (148 reviews), 4.5 'Excellent' on Trustpilot (39 reviews), and 9.1/10 on the Northbound aggregator (103 reviews), praised for responsive staff, included gear, and capable, economical 4x4s; the main gripes are self-service lockbox confusion, warning lights on some older Dusters, and cold-weather comfort of the sleep-in-back and roof-tent setups for a minority of renters. Konvin, a newer operator, does not yet publish Google or Trustpilot scores, so its service reputation is harder to verify.
